Dimapur district was inaugurated as the eighth district of Nagaland in December, 1997.
The government of Nagaland, established Dimapur as the administrative headquarter of the district headed by Deputy Commissioner.
The different branches and its functionings in the DC’s office are :
1. General branch : Deals in any matters relating to village councils, appointment of Gaonboras (GBs), recognition of village and colonies.
2. Revenue branch : all land matters under the cadastral area like settlement of land dispute, extension, regularization of land, mutation, partition, mortgage,etc.
3. Judicial branch : deals in matters like succession, verification of antecedent, ILP defaulters, settlement of civil cases.
4. Permit branch : Issues roads permit, issue permits for holding public events in Dimapur.
5.Arms branch : this branch looks after Renewal of Arm license and purchase of arms.
6.Establishment branch : this branch caters to the welfare of the staffs, work distribution of the staffs, leave grant, increment of salary, appointments, incumbency list, GPF, etc.
7.Transport branch : This branch co-ordinates with the Traffic police, District Transport office and DMC traffic in matters related to regulating traffic in the town. It also facilitates as and when the need arises to various unions in the transport sector. This branch also oversee the drivers and handyman employed in DC’s office.
8.Development branch : Development department like education, health, rural development, agriculture, etc. implements their schemes and programmes in liaison with this branch. Registration of Societies are taken up in this branch.
