About District

Dimapur became Nagaland’s eighth district on 2 December 1997, having earlier been a sub-division of Kohima district. It is an important commercial centre and gateway to Nagaland and neighbouring states. The district is bordered by Kohima and Assam’s Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts and has the state’s only railway station and airport. Most of the district lies in the plains at an average elevation of 260 metres, with a hot and humid summer and cool winter. Administratively, the district is divided into several sub-divisions and circles, with the Deputy Commissioner’s office located at Dimapur.
