1. About the Department:
The Office of the District Horticulture Officer, Dimapur was established in the year 1998. The District Horticulture Office plays a crucial role in promoting horticulture development to improve farmers’ livelihoods and contribute to the state’s economy.
Some of the key objectives and roles of the District Horticulture Office are:
i. Promoting Horticulture Crops: The office encourages Farmers to cultivate various horticulture crops like fruits, vegetables, flowers and spices by providing guidance on best practices and technologies.
ii. Providing Quality Planting Materials: the office ensures the availability of quality planting materials such as seeds and seedlings to farmers.
iii. Training and capacity building: The office conducts training programs and workshops for farmers, extention officers and other stakeholders to enhance their skills and knowledge in horticulture development.
iv. Post-Harvest Management: the office provides guidance on post-harvest practices, including storage, processing and marketing to reduce losses and increase farmers income.
v. Market Linkage: The office facilitates market linkages for horticulture produce enabling farmers to access better price and market.
vi. Research & Development: the office collaborates with research institute and organisations such as central institute of horticulture, ICAR, KVK to develop and promote improved horticulture technologies and practices.
vii. Extension Services: The office provides extention services including advisory services, demonstration and exhibition to promote horticulture development in the district.
