Brief Description About Cooperation Department.
1. Introduction:
Cooperative Society is an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their
common economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly owned and democratically
controlled enterprise. Cooperative are based on the value of self-help, democracy, equality, equity and
solidarity. Section 4 (1) of the Nagaland Cooperative Societies Act 2017 defines cooperative as “A
society whose objectives is to promote the economic interest or general welfare of its members or the
public in accordance with cooperative principles.”
Statutory Functions of the Department:
i. Registration, Supervision, Assistance, Counsel and Control of registered cooperative societies.
ii. Audit, Inspection, Arbitration and Liquidation.
iii. Cooperative Education and Training.
iv. Implementation of various schemes under NCDC.
v. Such other duties and responsibilities as may be provided under the relevant Cooperative
Societies Acts and Rules and Bye-Laws framed under.
