CONNECTIVITY:
Nagaland can be reached via Air, Rail and Road. However, before embarking on the journey,
travellers should ensure they possess the required entry permits. Nagaland is a small state
with a unique culture; the purpose of these permits is to ensure that the place maintains its
identity and natural wealth. These permits are not meant as a deterrent, but as a “traveller’s
passport” to the state’s unique culture and natural wealth.
ENTRY PERMITS:
a) PROTECTED AREA PERMIT (PAP): The protected area permit relaxation has
been withdrawn from Nagaland w.e.f March 2025 as per directive from the Ministry
of Home Affairs. All the foreigners who wish to visit or reside need to obtain PAP
mandatorily.
Foreign tourist are to mandatorily register online on e-FRRO portal
https://indianfrro.gov.in/frro (No physical PAP permits are issued).

Citizens of Afghanistan, China and Pakistan and foreign nationals having their origins in
these countries would require prior approval of MHA before their visit to the states of
Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram .
b) INNER LINE PERMIT (ILP): Indian (domestic) tourist should mandatorily obtain
the Inner line permit (ILP). The Inner Line permit has transitioned to an online
platform effective from 1st Jan 2025.
To apply for ILP they can visit the official website https://ilp.nagaland.gov.in or through the
website of the Commissioner, Nagaland https://commissioner.nagaland.gov.in/online-ilp.
These digital processes aims to streamline the application process enhance efficiency and
improve accessibility for the benefit of the tourist.
ENTRY AND EXIT POINTS:
i) Airport- Dimapur Airport is one of the gateway and the only civil airport in
Nagaland, located at 3rd mile (AH-1). It is about 7 km away from the main city and the
railway station. It is easily accessible by taxis and auto for
any incoming and outgoing commuters.
ii) Railway Station- station in Dimapur is located in the heart of the City with tourist
attractions and market places at walking distance.
a) Dimapur Railway Station (DMV)– It is the Major station in Dimapur and is located
in the heart of the town adjacent to old NST Dimapur station, East Police Station and
is accessible for taxis and other four wheeler vehicles in the eastern side of the station.
It is also accessible for the public on foot through the over bridge. Any incoming and
outgoing passenger can have access by taxi and auto.
b) Rangapahar Crossing (RXRX) – It is a small crossing in Dimapur district .
c) Rangapahar (RXR) – Another station in the Rangapahar area.
d) Dimapur Sliding Fs (DMFS) – Listed among stations in Dimapur District.
(iii) Bus Terminal- The Bus Terminal at Dimapur called Old NST bus stand (NSTNagaland
State Transport) is located in the heart of the town just adjacent to Railway Station
and is accessible by taxis and auto.
The second bus terminal is located at ISBT at Purana Bazar which is also accessible for the
commuters coming from Kohima and other districts. The ISBT is also accessible by taxis and
auto.
NST Department also operate city bus service from the main station adjacent to the
Railway Station upto Chümoukedima Town with various stoppages on the way where
passengers can board and get down at this stoppages.
iv) Taxi stand –
a) Taxi stand located at Railway Station Road, Dimapur –called Kohima Taxi stand.
Dimapur railway station taxi stand is the primary hub for all inter district taxi services.
b) Dimapur district taxi counter- located at various points in and around blue hill area and
super market area in Dimapur town to cater to passenger convenience.
c) Taxi services around Airport Road- A number of Taxis Ply in the airport parking lot
and services like self drive Taxi’s are available- “Kabxi” a registered travel operator
with the Department of Tourism offers taxi & self drive car rental services located near
the Dimapur Airport gate, Kirha Village .
d) Other Identified taxi points- including counters at Chümoukedima and Niuland,
facilitating onward travel to respective districts. Chümoukedima Taxi stand- located at
1st Gate Chümoukedima town.
e) Medziphema Taxi stand- located at Medziphema town.
V) Road-
The distance from the capital city Kohima is 69.4 Kms. Bus stand and Taxi stands are located
in the heart of the city, which is just adjacent to the railway station. Night buses connect
Dimapur and Kohima to Guwahati and Shillong (Meghalaya). A number of taxis ply
regularly from Dimapur and Kohima. A very convenient way for reaching Kohima is to take
the train or flight to Dimapur and then rent a taxi to Kohima. The Dimapur taxi stand is
adjacent to the Railway Station. Yellow Taxis can be hired with other passengers (shared
taxis) or exclusively (full taxis). Travellers can also opt to rent a car from Guwahati (through
tour operators) and drive all the way to Kohima. This pleasant drive lasts about 8 -9 hours,
taking the tourist past beautiful stretches of forests, greenery and hills; but one should try to
start and end the journey before nightfall due to the terrain. Night buses connect Dimapur and
Kohima to Guwahati and Shillong (Meghalaya).
